Come on, Lassie, come on girl, time for walkies! Time for your bath! Ow, stop it, Lassie. No, Lassie, no! Put Timmy down! Oh, God …
If this harrowing scene sounds familiar, then your beloved hound may need a session with …. the Dog Whisperer. Yes, the dog people of Edmonton will be out in force when Cesar Millan comes to town. The man who takes the meanest, most ill-behaved dogs and trains them right before your eyes will appear at the Jubilee Auditorium on Tuesday, November 13, to share his secrets. It’s part of an extensive Canadian tour called “Trust Your Instincts.”
Dog owners know that there is no such a thing as a “bad dog.” Only bad owners – so it behooves us to pay attention to Millan’s amazing gifts with our canine pals. There will be no actual dogs allowed at the show (service dogs excepted), which is OK. What the Dog Whisperer actually doing is training the owners – things like how to read canine body language, knowing what triggers aggression, and above all, knowing that dogs are keenly sensitive to human behaviour. They can smell fear. Not really. Or maybe. Let Millan educate you:
“A dog’s world is one of instincts – this world is very different from the human world, which is fast-paced, full of stress and ultimately creates unbalance in dogs. The instinctual world is one of energy, harmony and calmness,” Millan in quoted in a press release. “My new seminar tour will give dog owners the tools to recognize how to create an environment of balance and calmness for their dogs. This will prevent and resolve everyday problems. I hope that through understanding the world dogs live in, people will transform their dogs and maybe a bit of themselves at the same time.”
Good human, such a good human …
