So you are the Christ, you’re the great Jesus Christ. Prove to me that you’re divine, change my water into wine … and God save the queen’s fascist regime! Is that how it goes?
How’s this for a masterpiece of casting: Johnny Rotten, aka John Lydon, will be playing the role of King Herod in the arena spectacular production of Jesus Christ Superstar, at Rexall Place one night only, Sunday, July 6. Co-starring will be ‘NSync’s JC Chasez as Pontius Pilate, Incubus’s Brandon Boyd as Judas with Krysten Cummings as Mary Magdalene (Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child will be playing Mary on other dates than Edmonton). British actor Ben Forster is Jesus.
Tickets range from $58.50 to $192.25 (plus service charges) and go on sale to the general public Monday, April 14. Presales begin April 7.
On landing the role of the funniest character in what is considered Andrew Lloyd Webber’s finest musical, the former singer of the Sex Pistols said in a statement, “I’m here to sing with the King of the Jews, who could ask for anything more?”
How about a Sex Pistols reunion? Never mind.
