Who? Yes! No, not Yes – The Who comes to Edmonton!

On the idea of The Who touring with just two original members, fans have generally shrugged their shoulders and responded, “Well, ‘alf a Who is better than no Who at all.”

Now what about The Who with an orchestra?

For that’s exactly what Pete Townshend and Roger Daltry have cooked up for their latest tour: The “Moving On” tour, which comes to Edmonton at Rogers Place on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The septuagenarian rockers be joined by their usual touring band, which includes Pete’s (much) younger brother Simon Townshend, and drummer Zak Starkey (son of Ringo), along with symphony accompaniment from the “best orchestras in the U.S. and Canada.” It fits – as these guys’ greatest accomplishment in the rock ‘n’ roll canon is the development of the “rock opera.” Better brush up on your Baba O’Riley, ESO.

Tickets are $53 to $304 and go on sale Thursday, Jan. 24. The pre-sale starts on Monday, Jan. 21.

Last time The Who was in Edmonton was in 2016, one of the last concerts to take place in the Northlands Coliseum.

Despite the name of the current tour, this is not a farewell. Quite the contrary. Moving On! is the band’s first studio album of new music in 13 years – and you can expect to hear a lot of it at the show. Every online ticket purchased comes with a free (digital) copy of the new record, upon its release later this year.
