Alice in Chains returns to Edmonton

One of the most respected and influential bands of the Seattle grunge era is returning to Edmonton this spring – the untimely death of one of their core members isn’t going to stop Alice in Chains.
Jerry Cantrell – continuing on after the 2002 death of fellow founding member Layne Staley – found a new vocal partner in William DuVall. They have enjoyed great success on tour, and released three more albums since “reforming” (they never said they were breaking up) in 2005. With fellow original Chains members, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez, the band will play Saturday, April 13 in the Edmonton Expo Centre. Tickets are $89.50 and go on sale Feb. 1.
They’re touring behind their latest album, Rainier Fog (referring to the mountain that sometimes can be seen from Seattle), which recently hit No. 1 on most of the rock charts. The band comes with a Hall of Fame-worthy (and eligible!) legacy of music that includes hits like Rooster (1993), No Excuses (1994) and Heaven Beside You (1996), each marked by Chains’ distinctive dueling dark vocal harmonies, and a rock style that helped define the so-called “Seattle sound” that still holds up today.
Rainier Fog, the band’s first album in more than five years, is nominated for “Best Rock Album” at the 2019 Grammy Awards, happening Feb. 10.
