Dweezil Zappa to play Zappa in Edmonton

The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree, as they say.
The closest we will get to seeing Frank Zappa now is through his equally eccentric and talented son Dweezil, who has been proudly carrying the torch of his father’s music and unique worldview for years, with a quirky style evident in his own work, too. Hear for yourself when Dweezil Zappa and his seven-piece band present Hot Rats & Other Hot Stuff, Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Myer Horowitz Theatre.
Ticket are $55 and go on sale Friday.
Afforded all the opportunities of the son of a famous rock legend, Dweezil has done it all: Musician, songwriter, film actor, TV actor, voice actor, MTV Veejay, you name it, working with a who’s who of Los Angeles rock royalty in the process.
More than a decade after the death of his father, who left a staggering legacy of offbeat hits that put a big dent in the status quo, Dweezil decided to bring dad’s music to the concert stage, which was a great success – and in five albums since 2008 as “Zappa Plays Zappa.” Until he got a cease and desist letter from his siblings in charge of the Frank Zappa Trust, that is. Long story – but it’s all good now. Dweezil is back touring and making music under his own name, touring on his latest record – his seventh as a solo artist – called Via Zammata. The name of the tour, meanwhile, is taken from his father’s 1969 album Hot Rats, so expect some vintage Zappa at the show, too.
