LISTEN HERE: Kevin Maimann makes House Calls

EXCLUSIVE

Hear new music from local ‘post glam dirt pop’ duo

Kevin Maimann’s been going hard for years – as a journalist, currently a hard-nosed news reporter for The Star Edmonton (and formerly Edmonton Sun, plus GigCity) – and by night a prolific rock musician. His latest band, with musician and actor Pete Morley, is “post glam dirt pop” power duo named House Calls, which releases its debut self-titled EP with a show Saturday, April 27 at the Sewing Machine Factory.

Maimann is 32 years old now. The new single Live Forever deals with aging: “It’s about coming to the realization that I may be a bit too old to keep partying,” he says. “It came from one of those moments, too much to drink, too tired the next day, where I’m thinking, ‘Man, I’m an idiot!’ I can’t just do what I want forever. I’ve got to look for something longer lasting. I don’t know what that is. The song is a little bit cynical: You can’t live forever, but I don’t know what else to do.”

Live Forever, by House Calls

Wine lips and an acid tongue and we’re up all night

Two shots, take another down till we feel all right

Stay awake till the sun is up, beating in your eyes

Once more, we can keep it going if you think that you might

Live forever, so careless and free

Whatever we wanted to be

Forever was once on my mind

We’ve run out of time

Stop quick, take a look around, everyone has left now

Dead broke and you’re so alone and you don’t know how

Some days I can feel it all slipping out so fast

Slow down, find another way, now I know I can’t

Live forever, so careless and free

Whatever we wanted to be

Forever was once on my mind

We’ve run out of time

L-I-V-E-F-O-R-E-V-E-R

We’ve run out of time

Forever is fading

We’ve run out of time
