Zack Adams: Love Songs For Future Girl
Stage 10 – (Acacia Hall)
The last entry in our foreign Fringer sweepstakes is Australian Zack Adams in his one man comedic musical escapade, Zack Adams: Love Songs For Future Girl.
Spoiler alert: This is a 10-year-old piece that’s been brought back into the future, retooled a bit for good measure. Not sure it needed it – as pretty much everything Fringe lifer Adams has brought to the stage over the years has attained near must-see status.
His one-hour piece shares an almost all-original song cycle with Adams on vocals and guitar, interspersed with plenty of monologues on the subject of a series of failed personal relationships. Veteran he is, Adams relentlessly milks the material for laughs mostly by taking the piss out of himself via the multitude of personal faux pas he’d like to forget – but can’t because they’re just too damn funny.
Turning past pain into today’s mirth helps ease the transition humans have to make on the road to learning the challenging lessons of relating to other people. The success of this performance is the alchemy of a truly skilled comedian.
