IN IT FOR LOVE: Herb Alpert and Lani Hall Perform in Edmonton next Spring

Trumpeting legend Herb Alpert was the “A” in A&M Records, and when he and his partner Jerry Moss sold their company to PolyGram in 1992, they each wound up with several hundred million dollars.
Then there’s the royalty and licensing fees for all that music by the Tijuana Brass in the 1960s, including that one record owned by every mom and dad in the world: Whipped Cream and Other Delights. Not to mention all of Herb’s solo work, working with other artists in several projects and labels, and a whole mass of pursuits all these years.
Point is, Herb’s rich. He doesn’t have to make records and tour to maintain the lifestyle to which he’s become accustomed, like so many modern artists have to. Therefore we can only conclude he’s doing it for LOVE.
Fans of the 84-year-old legend are in for an intimate treat when he comes to Edmonton to perform in the Myer Horowitz Theatre on Sunday, April 12. Also on the bill is his wife of 46 years, recording artist and double-Grammy winner Lani Hall. They’ll be backed by small combo, befitting their jazz stylings. The tour is in support of Alpert’s new album, Over the Rainbow – and if anyone wants to count how many records he’s made, be my guest. It’s got to be pushing 100 by now. For love!
Tickets to the show are $55-$85 and go on sale Friday.
