MUSIC PREVIEW: Don’t hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself!

Best known for Keep Your Hands To Yourself, the Georgia Satellites land in Edmonton Saturday night to play a gig at the River Cree Resort & Casino.
Since that hit, off the band’s 1986 eponymous release, the band has seen three of its four members move on, with only Rick Richards remaining from the roster of that time. While handling backing vocals and rhythm guitar, he now shares lead vocals and plays lead guitar as well (he was also the lead guitarist in Izzy Stradlin’s band, Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds, back in the ‘90s). Fred McNeal is the other lead vocalist, who joined the group in 2013.
Still based in their namesake state, the band continues to tour on the strength of their early material, as they haven’t recorded a new album since 1997. Besides the track already mentioned, the other hit that made them a household name back in the day is Hippy Hippy Shake, from the soundtrack to the movie Cocktail (yes, yes, with Tom Cruise).
In case you’re curious, the original lead vocalist Dan Baird ended up creating a new band called Homemade Sin, which also includes Mauro Magellan (the drummer of the Satellites from 1985-1990), and bassist Keith Christopher (who was an original member of the Satellites, even before their eponymous release).
Show at 9 pm, tickets $47 and up, BUY.

Laundry Week – This local trio, featuring Daniel Blade on bass, Shea Iles on drums, and Charles Pickard on guitar and vocals, only started working together in 2018, but have already made significant inroads into the local music scene. Their pair of EPs, including last summer’s Grimpy, recorded at Edmonton’s own Smile! Studios, demonstrate an interesting blend of pop-punk and doom-and-gloom alt-rock. Torrent and Redacted open. Aviary, 7:30 pm, $10, BUY
Friday 10
Darryl Saves Lives – This Edmonton alt-indie quintet released their debut EP last February. Featuring vocals from all three guitarists, the band effortlessly traverse the sonic freeway from indie to alt to garage to grunge. With Selfish Bodies, and Dead City Casuals. Temple at Starlite Room, 8 pm, $10. BUY
Saturday 11
Nebular Wave – The sounds and sights of this instrumental psych-rock group will take you on a journey into outer space, far away in distance and time from this frail little planet we call home. And, couldn’t we all use that from time to time. Or more often. Like, a lot more often. The mystical magical drums, drones, and grooves of the Holy Drone Travellers perform opening duties, as well as Zebra Pulse and CJ Gulzar. Aviary, 8 pm, $10. BUY
A Gentleman’s Pact – This group of four, well, gentlemen, from the hustle-bustle of lovely little Beaumont, got some good buzz in 2018 after starting as a folk band but quickly detouring into the punk realms, even performing opening duties for a Chixdiggit- Teenage Bottlerocket gig. Their sound could perhaps be best described as a sort of ill-advised progeny of Face to Face and Offspring. Their sole record to date is aptly named Who the Fuck Is AGP?, and is a glorious collection of 12 quick-hitting, hard-striking tracks that is best played around 11 on the volume knob. With The Galacticas, The Unwashed, Ringwalds, and Partycrasher. Temple at Starlite Room, 8 pm, $12. BUY
