STREAMING MUSIC: Which Twitch Will You Watch?
Posted on April 16, 2020 By Michael Senchuk Entertainment, Front Slider, Music
With a little dram of hope, but still no end in sight to the concert-less world we now live in, more and more musicians are doing a little something online. Recent live-stream luminaries include Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), such favorites as the Arkells, and everywhere in between, Cold War Kids and Dan Deacon, to name just a couple more). Even Martin Guitars is doing a little something every day with different artists on their Facebook page.
The more organized shows seem to be all the rage.
The band Sure Sure, for instance (above), is a bright and glittery California art pop project that’s heading into the second weekend of a bunch of shows – from within the house they share. The four members have dedicated the attic as their main playing space, but this weekend are streaming from their hallway on Thursday night, and then from one of their bedrooms on Friday and Saturday nights. Schedule here.
Thursday
The Black Crowes – Founders Chris and Rich Robinson throw down an acoustic session recorded live at The Chapel in San Francisco, back in the early days of March. Oh, how different the world must have seemed then. The show starts at 7 pm local tome. Youtube link.
Friday
Jeff Tweedy – The renowned leader of Wilco, which was set to tour Alberta (well, OK, Calgary) mere days after music venues started shutting their doors, is performing at Amazon Music’s Twitch page, and Pickathon’s YouTube page, on Friday at 2 pm our time. Expect a generous helping of Wilco tunes, but don’t be surprised if he grabs some material from his earlier days with Uncle Tupelo, or even a solo tune, or even a track from some he cowrote with his son Spencer.
The Pack A.D. – Another favorite act that gets a lot of attention in these parts, this Vancouver-based garage rock duo featuring Maya Miller and Becky Black have played a number of our city’s now-closed venues, and will undoubtedly be back once we can start seeing concerts again. The learned pair take inspiration from all manner of genres, from science fiction to the greatest works of those authors your English teachers all made you read, and coalesce it into heart-thumping adrenaline-pumping rock. The pair is hosting a live event on Twitch Friday night at 7 pm local. Find some good speakers, you’re going to want to listen to this one loud. Link to event
Saturday
The Killers – Born amongst the crazed entertainment world of Las Vegas, this well-known alternative act has a new album coming out in late May. They’re conducting a Q&A and performing on Instagram Live Saturday at 1 pm local time.
